Eight best Vagaro alternatives for spas, salons, and med spas

Most owners do not go looking for new software because they want a project. They go looking because something stopped fitting – perhaps the monthly bill grew with every feature they added, the online booking rules would not say “consultation first,” memberships lived on three screens, or the second location turned into a second set of logins. Those are business problems before they are software problems, and the fix is not always a cheaper plan. If you are a Vagaro user and have been looking for Vagaro alternatives, this guide can help.
The best Vagaro alternatives for salons, spas, and med spas in 2026 are Zenoti, Meevo, GlossGenius, Booksy, Square Appointments, Boulevard, Fresha, and Mindbody. The right one depends on how many locations you run, how you sell memberships, and how much of the business you want one platform to carry.
This guide compares eight platforms built for salons, spas, med spas, and wellness businesses across the things that actually drive a switch: pricing as you grow, booking control, memberships, marketing, inventory, reporting, support, and room to add locations. None of them is the automatic answer. Before choosing a Vagaro alternative, understand what you are replacing: the software, your existing workflows, or the way your entire business is managed.
| Alternative | Best for | Pricing (checked at vendor site, October 2026) | Key strength |
|---|---|---|---|
| Zenoti | Salons, spas and med spas that want one platform for operations, AI automation and growth across one or many locations | Custom quote | Booking rules, memberships, inventory and reporting that run across every location |
| Meevo | Established salons, spas and med spas that want AI “advisors” and clinical charting in one system | Quote-based; Lite, Essential, Premier and Enterprise tiers | AI front-desk, marketing and insights advisors; MeevoMD for med spas |
| GlossGenius | Independent stylists and small teams | Standard $24, Gold $48, Platinum $148 a month; flat 2.6% processing | Simple mobile-first setup, free data transfer, flat processing rate |
| Booksy | Barbers and beauty pros who want one price and a client marketplace | $29.99 a month plus $20 per extra user, all features included | Single all-features plan, 24/7 live chat, large consumer marketplace |
| Square Appointments | Solo operators and small shops already using Square payments | Free, Plus $49, Premium $149 a month per location | Free entry plan, Square payments and payroll in one account |
| Boulevard | Salons, spas and medspas with 2 to 20 locations | Essentials $143 a month (one location); Premier $234 and Prestige $328 per location (limited-time pricing) | Per-service deposits, client-specific durations, Beau AI receptionist |
| Fresha | Solo providers and small teams that want low fixed costs and marketplace discovery | Independent $19.95 a month; Team $14.95 per bookable team member a month; 20% one-time marketplace commission on new clients | Low subscription, memberships and packages included, 25M+ marketplace |
| Mindbody | Wellness-leaning brands and spas with fitness or class components | From $79 a month per location (offer price); enterprise plans custom | Branded mobile app and consumer app listing |
This table compares all eight platforms side by side. Pricing is shown as a plain fact from each vendor’s own page.
How were these Vagaro alternatives evaluated?
Each platform was measured against eight essential needs that come up when owners decide to switch from their booking and business software. The bar for each need is set by the two rivals that compete most directly for salons, spas and med spas –Boulevard and Booksy –and every platform is described only from what it states on its own website or help center, with the date it was checked. Where something is not published, this guide says “not stated publicly” rather than guessing.
The eight needs, in the order buyers raise them:
| # | Pain point, as a criterion | Weight | Where Zenoti stands vs Boulevard and Booksy (checked 5 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Online booking rules you control | 20% | Level on per-service deposits; ahead on prerequisite services, which neither rival states; the only one to state both per-service intervals and personalized timing |
| 2 | Total cost as you add features | 15% | No price lead (Zenoti is quote-based); Zenoti's answer is ROI |
| 3 | Support and reliability you can count on | 15% | No comparative claim; proof from recent switchers |
| 4 | Memberships and packages that are simple to run | 15% | Level with Boulevard; ahead of Booksy |
| 5 | Marketing automation you control | 10% | Level on campaigns |
| 6 | Inventory tied to the services you perform | 10% | Ahead on projected-versus-actual usage; ahead of Boulevard on transfers |
| 7 | Reporting and back office | 10% | Ahead of Booksy; close to Boulevard |
| 8 | Room to grow: more locations, with brand control | 5% | Ahead on franchise tools and scale |
Top 8 Vagaro competitors: Features and pricing compared
1. Zenoti: AI-powered all-in-one salon, spa and med spa platform
Zenoti is the alternative for businesses that have outgrown a booking tool and need the whole operation, front desk, memberships, inventory, payroll, marketing and reporting, to run as one system. It serves salons, spas and med spas with a single location as well as groups and franchises, and it adds AI agents on top of the core platform for front-desk, marketing, and business-advisory work. The trade-off is real: setup takes more effort than a plug-and-play app, and pricing is by quote. Here is how it performs on the eight needs above.
1. Online booking rules you control
Zenoti gives businesses flexible control over online booking, such as requesting a deposit for a service – either a fixed amount or a percentage of the price, and make a consultation a prerequisite before certain treatments can be booked. Businesses can also fine-tune appointment scheduling by service: setting booking intervals, adding buffer time between appointments, allowing certain services to run in parallel, and adjusting the duration for regular guests who are known to need more time. Zenoti’s online booking supports group and multi-service bookings, automated waitlists, and abandoned-cart recovery, while no-show and late-cancellation fees are collected automatically. Among the platforms here, Zenoti is the only one that states both prerequisite services and the pair of per-service intervals, plus personalized timing. In comparison, Boulevard saves a client-specific duration; Booksy sets intervals per service. But neither states both.
A real-world example: When DePasquale The Spa, a 24,000-square-foot spa, salon and med spa in New Jersey, reopened on Zenoti, 53% of its bookings came in online or by mobile, within 24 hours.
2. Total cost as you add features
Zenoti does not publish a price list; Zenoti’s pricing page asks for a quote, AI agents are part of the AI Plus package, and AI Scribe is a paid add-on. Zenoti Payments uses fixed-rate pricing by card brand with month-to-month agreements and no minimum volume. The cost argument is consolidation rather than a lower sticker price: payroll with tax filing, a phone system, two-way texting and a branded client app run inside the platform, so there are fewer separate subscriptions.
OC Waxing, five salons in Orange County, California, cut payroll processing time by 75%; Kelsie Hove, its operations manager, says “Payroll with Zenoti has completely changed my life.”
3. Support and reliability you can count on
Zenoti states 24/7 global support for every customer, and AI Plus plans add a dedicated Customer Success Manager with priority assistance backed by SLAs. Its payments documentation states 99.99% uptime and PCI DSS-secure transactions. The most useful evidence comes from owners who made this exact move.

“"Namaste MBS Spa Review"”

Pros
Due to the assistance of [sensitive content hidden] we were able to go from day one to the launch date with a little hard work and team effort.
The onboarding team was amazing, and they assisted us in every step of the process. The system is easy to use once you have a clear understanding of the system. The new system allows for business growth and expansion into new markets. The Zenoti system gives our clients a quick as easy option for online booking. The management of patient data is easy to access and process new information.
Cons
The Onboarding is lengthy and has many steps. The amount of time and effort that was needed to transfer the data from one system to Zenoti was difficult.

“"Excellent Implementation Support and a Powerful Platform"”
September 17, 2026
Pros
Overall, our experience with Zenoti has been very positive. Moving to a new system is always a big transition, but having [sensitive content hidden] support us throughout the implementation has made the process much easier. They continue to help us with reports, integrations, configurations, and adjustments as we learn the platform. I really appreciate her availability, attention to detail, and willingness to find solutions for our business.
The level of support during the implementation process has been excellent. [sensitive content hidden] has been extremely helpful, patient, and responsive throughout the entire setup. She has taken the time to understand our business needs, answer our questions, and help us configure the system in a way that works for our operations.
Cons
The system is very comprehensive, which is a big advantage, but the implementation can also be complex because there are many settings, reports, and configurations to learn. Some areas require a deeper understanding before they can be fully optimized.
Switched from Vagaro
We switched from Vagaro because we needed a more robust and scalable platform to support the growth of our business. We were looking for better reporting, stronger integrations, more automation, improved membership management, and more advanced tools for managing multiple employees and future locations. Zenoti offered a more complete solution for the level of structure and growth we are planning.

4. Memberships and packages that are simple to run
Memberships in Zenoti auto-renew and can be paid in full or monthly. Guests choose their own start date and can freeze or skip a payment. Trial memberships convert to regular ones automatically;benefits can be shared with family and friends; and one program redeems at every location.
Hand & Stone, a franchise with more than 460 locations across the U.S. and Canada, runs membership benefits, loyalty rewards and gift cards on Zenoti, and theseare honored at all their spas.
Boulevard matches most of these features, including shareable memberships and paused billing; Booksy sells unlimited-visit memberships and packages but does not state recurring billing, pausing or sharing.
5. Marketing automation you control
Email and text campaigns are built on segments from guest and service data; quick-launch campaigns create the segment and the offer in one step; referral programs run automatically; and loyalty can be flat or tiered. Reviews from Google, Facebook and in-app feedback land in one reputation management dashboard with AI-drafted replies that staff approve before they post.
Do The Bang Thing Salon sent 66,700 emails over a six-month campaign at a 24% average open rate and says it has welcomed back hundreds of lost guests.
On campaigns, Boulevard and Booksy are at par with Zenoti; tiered loyalty and AI-drafted review replies are the stated extras.
6. Inventory tied to the services you perform
Stock updates in real time across locations, with low-stock alerts; transfers between sites pre-filled purchase orders with vendor ERP integration; and separate retail and professional stock. The feature that stands out is projected usage versus actual usage for the services performed, which pinpoints waste or possible theft.

“"Wonderful Migration to Zenoti"”
April 10, 2026
Pros
Our business migrated over to zenoti a couple of months ago and it has been a wonderful experience with all the great capabilities they offer especially for franchising. Our account manager [sensitive content hidden] . is quick and efficient and lovely to work with. He has a clear understanding of our wants and needs and always finds. a solution for us. The zenoti team also provided a great training for us how to utilize the system and it is extremely easy to learn and navigate bookings, reporting, inventory, scheduling and payroll.
Cons
The beginning of the migration process was a bit difficult because they paired us with a team in a different time zone so communication was hard but this was quickly rectified and we were then paired with [sensitive content hidden] who has been absolutely amazing.

Boulevard couldn't support us in the way we needed.

Jacinda P., a VP of store and franchise operations in cosmetics, wrote on Capterra in April 2026 that the system “is extremely easy to learn and navigate bookings, reporting, inventory, scheduling and payroll.”
7. Reporting and back office
Reports can be tailored by adding, rearranging or removing columns; saved as views with custom formula columns; scheduled by email; and rolled up for the whole organization, a region or a set of locations.
Nidia Johnson, VP at LNJ Investments (SmartStyle and Cost Cutters), puts it plainly: “Now, with all salon details in one powerful report, we’re saving a jaw-dropping 10 hours of effort per person every single week!”
Boulevard also offers saved templates and a Snowflake connection; Booksy lists 16 revenue and cash-flow reports but does not state custom or scheduled reports.
8. Room to grow
More locations, with brand control. One profile per guest across centers, a centralized appointment book, memberships and gift cards that redeem anywhere, organization and center-level policies, and cross-center settlements with royalty payments for franchises. More than 400 multi-center brands run on it. Boulevard describes its multi-location product as built for two to 20 locations; Booksy creates separate accounts per location that support can merge.

Does it work for one location? Yes. Jonathon Levi, who opened Jonny Levi salon as a single site, says: “I would highly encourage other single salons to use Zenoti. Our guests love the booking platform, and it’sbeen so easy and convenient for them. It’s given me more free time as a business owner.”

“"Being patient is my goal"”
April 2, 2026
Pros
It will get easier. Right now I find it harder to schedule and rebook guests. When I add services to a ticket, it seemed harder. Also, I still am confused with Zenoti live and Groovy Katz Salon. Training isn’t showing up anymore? I looked at a report that was giving me information and now the report is different. Where I was getting credit card fee’s and total credit card deposit…
The support before integration and the steps were very detailed and on schedule. The day we went live was hard but we made it. Our online scheduling has increased. I have learned to be patient with sending questions as they are addressed to me, passing these questions onto the message board. If I don’t understand, a live agent is easily available with helping. With Rocket Lane, the degree of help is answered with meetings set up to deep dive even further.
Cons
Sometimes my questions were getting answered and then they just stopped. I had to learn to be patient in the beginning and was forced to ask the message board. The Aplus rewards don’t automatically show, you have to find them. Customer returning products is not specified for product returns and Aplus rewards and redeeming points.

FAQs
How long does it take to switch from Vagaro?
Most salons and spas should plan for two to eight weeks, depending on how much data moves and how many locations are involved. Simpler platforms such as GlossGenius or Fresha can be live in days with a self-serve import, while Zenoti, Boulevard and Meevo run a guided implementation that migrates clients, services, memberships and gift-card balances and trains the team before go-live.
What is the best Vagaro alternative?
There is no single best Vagaro alternative; it depends on your size and model. GlossGenius, Fresha and Square Appointments fit solo providers and small teams. Booksy suits barbers and beauty pros who want one flat plan. Boulevard fits premium salons with a few locations. Zenoti fits salons, spas and medspas that want operations, memberships, inventory and AI automation in one platform across one or many locations.
How does Vagaro’s pricing compare to its competitors?
Compare published plans at each vendor’s own pricing page rather than on review sites. In October 2026, Fresha starts at $19.95 a month, GlossGenius at $24, Booksy at $29.99 plus $20 per extra user, Square Appointments at $0, Mindbody at $79 per location and Boulevard at $143 for one location. Zenoti and Meevo are quote-based. Add processing fees, per-user fees and add-ons before comparing totals.
Can I transfer my client data from Vagaro?
Yes. Every platform in this guide imports client lists, and most import appointment history, service menus and gift-card balances. GlossGenius advertises a free data transfer service, and Zenoti, Boulevard and Meevo handle migration through their implementation teams. Export your client, sales and membership data before you cancel anything, and confirm with the new vendor which fields they import.
Which Vagaro alternatives offer membership and loyalty programs?
Zenoti, Boulevard, Fresha, Booksy, Mindbody and Meevo all offer memberships; GlossGenius and Square cover packages and gift cards with memberships depending on plan. For recurring billing that guests can pause or skip, shareable benefits and redemption at any location, Zenoti and Boulevard state the most on their own pages. Booksy and Zenoti both state loyalty programs, and Zenoti adds tiered loyalty and referral automation.
Which salon software is best for client retention?
Retention comes from rebooking at checkout, memberships that keep guests on a cadence, and automated win-back campaigns. Zenoti combines all three with an AI Retention Manager that follows up with lapsed guests, and the Do The Bang Thing Salon case study shows a six-month campaign at a 24% open rate bringing back hundreds of guests. Boulevard and Booksy also run automated campaigns and loyalty.
Is there a cheaper alternative to Vagaro?
Square Appointments has a free single-location plan, and Fresha ($19.95 a month) and GlossGenius ($24 a month) are the lowest published subscriptions in this guide as of October 2026. “Cheaper” should include processing rates, per-user fees, add-ons and marketplace commissions. A business running payroll, texting and a phone system through separate tools may find a quote-based platform like Zenoti costs less in total.
Does Zenoti work for a single-location salon or spa?
Yes. Zenoti is used by single-site salons, spas, and medspas as well as franchises with hundreds of locations. A one-location business gets the same per-service deposits, prerequisite booking rules, memberships, inventory and scheduled reports, and can add locations later without changing platforms. Owner Jonathon Levi of Jonny Levi salon recommends it to“other single salons”for the booking experience and the time it gives back.
The bottom line
If you are leaving because the bill kept growing, start with Fresha, GlossGenius, Square Appointments or Booksy and model the total cost at your team size. If you are leaving because the software could not run the business you have built, memberships across locations, inventory that tracks what each service uses, reports that arrive on their own, booking rules you actually control, then Zenoti and Boulevard deserve the demo time, with Meevo and Mindbody close behind for specific models. Whichever way you go, decide first what you are replacing: the software, your workflows, or the way the whole business is managed. The answer tells you what kind of platform you need.
