As part of the Zenoti Foundation’s commitment to supporting the next generation of beauty and wellness practitioners we have partnered up with Gene Juarez Academy. The academy offers training for aspiring cosmetology professionals to equip them with the skills and education they need to succeed in the industry. At Zenoti, we understand that having the funds for these programs can often be a barrier to entry, so, through our $5,000 scholarship, we hope to support one individual on their journey.  

We'll also be supporting Gene Juarez with their ongoing shelter events to give back to the local communities. To tell you more, here’s Mary Gabuat, the Gene Juarez Academy Campus Director...

1. The Gene Juarez Cosmetology program sounds great – can you tell us a little more about it?

We offer our renowned Cosmetology program at both of our Gene Juarez Academy campus locations and enroll approximately 300 students annually. Our mission is to prepare students with the artistic, technical, guest service and business skills to become licensed and employed in the cosmetology, cosmetology education, barbering, manicuring, and guest service fields.

2. What makes the Gene Juarez Cosmetology program different?

Backed by a world-class salon and spa brand in the Pacific Northwest, Gene Juarez Academy strives to equip future cosmetologists with some of the best training in the industry – putting our focus on the student by providing experiences and networking connections that are not readily available at all beauty schools.

Beyond learning to cut & color hair, we offer invaluable experiences to our students. These include seasonal career fairs, where they meet regional salon employers, creative runway competitions, portfolio photo shoots, community outreach events, student ambassador program, and having notable industry guest speakers provide presentations.

3. How do you go above and beyond for students?

Wherever possible we look for ways to equip students with additional skills that make them more marketable and increase their earning potential. For this reason, in October 2019, we added eyelash extension training to our curriculum to give our students another in demand skill set before they graduate.  In Washington state, you must have a cosmetology or esthetics license to perform eyelash extension services to the public.  

To further this commitment, in 2020 we partnered with Zenoti to offer the level of technology needed in today’s modern salon. Offering cashless transactions, online booking, and a mobile app for both our students and guests brings a whole new level of salon management training into our existing business curriculum.

Finally, we partnered with Green Circle salons in 2020 to ensure we are environmentally responsible with salon waste. Now, 95% of the waste created on campus is recovered and recycled and students receive a certified sustainable education in being waster warriors throughout their careers.

4. What difference do you see the Zenoti Foundation scholarship making to students?

Many individuals we meet with prior to enrollment face financial obstacles that often result in the postponement of achieving their dream of becoming a licensed cosmetologist. Therefore, our ability to offer financial aid and scholarships to those who qualify is so important. Most of the scholarships available to beauty school students range from $1,000 -$2,500. The generous $5,000 Zenoti Foundation Scholarship will enable one well-deserving individual the ability to make it financially possible to enroll in our program.

5. Zenoti partnered with Gene Juarez at the Jubilee Women’s Center Shelter Day on May 24th - tell us a little more about that...

We have supported a number of shelters in the communities we service now but this is the first event we have hosted at our campus. We created a customized menu of our most popular hair and nail services for the attendees to select from and the services were performed by our students under the supervision of a licensed cosmetology educator. Attendees were also sent home with swag bags containing product samples from Bumble and bumble, one of the best-selling professional quality haircare brands we carry at Gene Juarez.

Giving back to the communities we service is an integral part of our Gene Juarez culture. The immeasurable impact of providing hair and nail services to those in need is a powerful thing and makes a difference in the lives we touch but also for our students and staff.

At Zenoti, we couldn’t agree with this more! We firmly believe that when you get these services you look good, and you feel good. Our hope is that by spreading this feeling we help individuals to achieve their goals and find their greatness.
